Weissheier Leads Clams To First Win Against Wilson

By Victoria Conway

The Edenton Steamers knocked off the Wilson Tobs 11-5 Saturday evening at Historic Fleming Stadium.

After falling behind 1-0, Edenton took the lead in the top of the 2nd when Rob Weissheier hit a two-run home run to left field.

The Clams extended their lead in the top of the 5th as Jordan Fitzpatrick ripped a two-run double to centerfield, plating Justin Drpich and Weissheier. After five frames, Edenton led, 6-3.

Fitzpatrick finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs batted in. The three hits are a season high for the sophomore.

In the 8th, Weissheier sent a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall for his second-long ball of the night. The junior finished 3-for-5 with 6 RBI and became the first Steamer this season to have a multi-homerun game.

The Clams scored a season high 11 runs and banged out 14 hits. Eight of the nine starters recorded a hit.

Wilson's biggest threat of the night came in the bottom of the 5th when the bases were loaded with no outs. CJ Dornak came out of the bullpen and allowed just one run to score.

Dornak improved to 2-1 on the season as he picked up the win in relief. The freshman went three innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out one.

Grant Crosby continued his solid start to the season, tossing two scoreless innings.

Sam Freedman went 1-for-2 with three walks, Anthony Stehlin went 2-for-4 in the nine hole and Jake Evans recorded his first multi-hit game in Teal and Black.

Edenton has now won three of four after starting the season 1-6. In their past two games, they have scored 18 runs and registered 25 hits.

Up next, Edenton resumes play in the top of the 8th inning of a tie ball game against Morehead City. Following the conclusion of that game, the two teams will play a regularly scheduled nine-inning game.
