The Edenton Steamers split a doubleheader with the Morehead City Marlins Sunday night at Big Rock Stadium.
Game one was a continuation of a game from May 31st that was tied at 4 in the top of the 8th. Edenton had the bases loaded with one out and grounded into a double play.
The Marlins ended up scoring three runs in the bottom of the frame and went on to win 7-4. Leo Perez earned the win as he pitched the final two innings and kept the Steamers off the board.
In game two, Edenton's bats came to life and as they scored three quick runs in the top of the 1st. Jordan Fitzpatrick singled on the first pitch of the game and Dane Simon followed with an infield single. Fitzpatrick came in to score on Ian Walters' RBI groundout.
Justin Drpich, the next man up, lined a pitch to right field for an RBI single. The junior continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-5 driving in three runs.
Quincy Hamilton hit a two-run shot to right center field for his first homerun with the Clams.
Jake Evans picked up his second consecutive multi-hit game and drove in a run.
In his first start for the Steamers, Payton Rice went five innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three.
John Dowless tossed 1.1 scoreless innings out of the pen with one strikeout and earned the win in relief.
Ian Walters' on base streak was snapped at 12 games.
Edenton has homered in 11 of their 12 games to start the season.
Up next, Edenton returns home to host the Peninsula Pilots at Historic Hicks Field on Monday night before an off day on Tuesday.
