Eisenbarger Shines, Steamers 1 Game Behind Tobs

By Victoria Conway

With the victory, Edenton moves within one game of first place, sitting behind the Wilson Tobs for the first half North dvision championship.

Jack Eisenbager turned in his best performance to date, stifling the Pilots for seven innings as he earned his first win of the season. The lefty allowed two earned runs, while racking up a season-high, nine punch outs.

On the offensive side, Anthony Stehlin lead the way with a 3-for-4 night, driving in three runs. It was the first time this season the sophomore batted in the two-hole.

Rob Weissheier also contributed with two hits, one of them an RBI double in the fourth, which extended the Steamers' lead, 7-3.

Jordan Fitzpatrick went 2-for3 with a run driven in and a stolen base.

Quincy Hamilton added two RBI, tying Kendall McGowan of Forest City for the CPL lead at 24.

Edenton's bullpen did not allow a run in their two innings of work. Grant Crosby made his team leading 12th appearance out of the pen. In the 9th, R.D. Lutze struck out two batters and turned in his fourth consecutive scoreless outing. Over that span, Lutze has seven strikeouts and has allowed just two hits.

For the Pilots, Jake Boone had a 3-for-3 evening, with two walks, reaching base five times.

The Clams now hold a 5-2 season series lead over the Pilots, who they will see nine more times this season.

The winner of the first half North division championship automatically hosts a home playoff game, regardless of their second half record.

The Steamers hold a tie breaker over the Tobs, but play one more game than Wilson.

Up next, Edenton travels to Martinsville for their second meeting with the Mustangs at Hooker Field on Thursday night.
